Pepin County 4-H Senior Youth Council

This organization is made up of 4-H members in grades 7-13. The SYC Council is active in community service, youth development/life skills/educational activites, and volunteering at the Pepin County Fair.

YOUTH LEADERSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

 Space Camp is held 5 days in April in Huntsville, Alabama, .  Participants complete a simulated Space Shuttle mission and learn about becoming an astronaut at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center. This opportunity is for members in grades 6-8, with a maximum age of 15 at time of trip.

Advanced Space Camp is held every other year typically in late January for a week in Huntsville, Alabama. Participants undergo a variety of astronaut training exercises, engineering challenges, and team building activities, all culminating in an extended duration simulated space mission.

Summer Academy is typically held in Madison the 3rd week of June.  This is a great beginning trip for members in the 7th-10th grades. Youth will experience life in a residence hall, learn about future education and careers and engage in personal exploration.

American Spirit is 10-day bus journey to the East Coast in Pennsylvania, New York City, Boston, and Massachusetts. Youth will teach about a topic related to American history and gain a better understanding of America’s heritage.  This is open to members in grades 8-10.

Citizenship Washington Focus is for members in the 10th grade and over.  Delegates participate in seminars on citizenship, leadership, government, tour D.C. and meet with U.S. Congress and watching a House of Representatives meeting.  This is a week long experience in the summer.  Delegates stay at a Washington D.C. area hotel.

National 4-H Congress includes a wide selection of self-development seminars, tours, and a service project while exchanging ideas with youth from across the country.  Delegates selected this fall will travel to Atlanta, Georgia, in November  (during Thanksgiving vacation but not on Thanksgiving Day – allow a couple of days for travel).  Members must be 14-18 years of age as of January 1st at the time of application.  State selection. 

National 4-H Conference in Washington D.C. will be held in April (allow a couple of days for travel).  Participants will work in task-groups with other youth from across the country to develop plans around specific issues (education, promotion, environment, youth partnerships, etc.)  They will help direct future 4-H programming.  They will also spend a day meeting with legislators and touring.  Members must be in 10-12 grade maximum age of 18 years of age as of  January 1st.   State selection. 

International Travel Opportunities are also available.  International Exchange, Summer Outbound Travel Program, and Summer Inbound Hosting Program are our global citizenship programs . Please contact the 4-H Youth Development Agent for more information.
