Especially important in our rural area, the Child Care Clinic prepares youth ages 11 and up to provide safe and responsible care for themselves, their siblings, and for other children in area families. As part of the training, students studied the course materials and the 4-H /Army Child & Youth Services Student Guide. Students learn about safety and prevention of accidents and injury – personal, toys, food, household, and community. Emergency preparedness and response was also covered. They also learned about leadership, responsibility, decision-making, problem solving, using community supports, child development and age-appropriate expectations, play, and positively managing difficult child behaviors. Other topics were professionalism, business practices, and setting financial goals.
